Artist position
Alexandra Kuzina paints seascapes, figures and everyday scenes, attending to the feeling of an encounter as much as its visible form. Colour and the physical surface of paint give these moments a tangible presence.
In her seascapes, raised paint intensifies the movement of water. Figures and urban spaces bring a different sense of proximity or distance. Across these subjects, dense marks meet quieter passages, allowing the image to remain recognisable without fixing its meaning.

Biography
Alexandra Kuzina is a painter based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Her oil paintings explore the relationship between recognisable imagery and the physical presence of paint. Water, tropical vegetation, urban scenes and figures recur throughout her work, including figures wearing the Vietnamese áo dài.
Her background includes early art classes in Moscow and classes in traditional Chinese brush painting during her studies in China. Journalism internships at Kultura television in Moscow involved cultural news preparation and visits to exhibition openings. Years spent in China and Southeast Asia form part of the lived context of her painting.
Artist statement
I am interested in how a painting can hold the intensity of a moment without explaining it. A familiar scene is a starting point, but its atmosphere matters as much as its visible form.
My approach is rooted in expressionism and develops through intuition and improvisation. As I work, I adjust the relationships between colours, the weight of a mark and the space around a figure. Some decisions are immediate; others emerge through changes to the painting.
I use oil with brushes and a palette knife. Impasto gives certain passages a physical force, while thinner areas let the image remain open. I want that balance to leave room for the viewer’s own response.
